Abstract:
The LASIK surgery is a kind of refractive surgery used to correct hyperopia, myopia and a real treatment for astigmatism. This study aimed to assess the ocular outcome of visual acuity (V.A) after LASIK surgery in patients with age ranges between (22-49) years old. This study was conducted in Ibn Al-Haythim hospital in Baghdad, the study sample was enrolled sixty patients (n= 60) from males and females. All patients were interviewed as well as submitted to the questions according to study questionnaire based on (gender, age, type of refractive error, visual acuity occupation) and were examined by optometrists in order to evaluate their cases. All patients examined by using auto-refractometer, snellen-chart and retinoscope. The results showed that the patients with myopia before LASIK surgery were about 44.2%, and after the LASIK operation, we found about 14.7%. From farsightedness before the LASIK client, their percentage is about 16.7%. After the LASIK operation, 5.8%. As for the patients who suffer from astigmatism before the LASIK operation, they are about 39.2%. After the LASIK operation, there are no patients suffering from astigmatism. We conclude that patients with refractive error have a LASIK surgery were a high recovery rate from all kinds of refractive errors, and the visual acuity returned to normal level approximately. LASIK was a good alternative to the medical glasses, however, patients must be follow the t instructions after the LASIK operation, especially during the first hours after the operation, such as avoiding: bright light, watching television, eye strain, and eye rubbing. Because the cornea of the eye is weak and its shape can change in order to avoid the complications.Patients should have regular check-ups to avoid refractive errors after LASIK surgery, and follow recommended procedures such as wearing sunglasses when going out, staying away from places that contain dust and dirt, and using eye drops to constantly obtain artificial tears to prevent dry eyes. We advise that in the event that patients are unable to undergo LASIK surgery due to corneal weakness, we recommend eye lens implantation. We conclude that patients with refractive error undergo LASIK surgery have a high recovery rate from all kinds of refractive errors and visual acuity returned to a degree closer to normal approximately. LASIK was a good alternative to glasses medical.
