Evaluation of medial rectus muscle fenestration in correcting small angle esotropia

Abstract:
Background: A novel suture less strabismus surgical method for medial rectus muscle weakness is the fenestration technique. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of the medial rectus muscle fenestration technique as a weakening strategy for small angle esotropia.
Methods: This prospective interventional study was carried out on 30 patients aged > 1 years old, both sexes, who underwent fenestration surgery for correction of small angle exotropia from 10-40 prism diopters for distance. Fenestration surgery was performed to all patients. The patients were followed at the 1st week, 1st month and 3rd months and 6th months for alignment.
