A clinical investigation on the relationship between diabetic retinopathy and diabetic nephropathy
Author(s): Dr. Sabiha Tabssum and Dr. Anila Sushma Challa
Abstract:
Background:The goal is to find out how common nephropathy and neuropathy are in people who have been identified with diabetic retinopathy and if there is a link between how bad the diabetic retinopathy is and how bad the nephropathy and neuropathy are.
Materials and Methods: This study took place at a primary care hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It was not random. From October 2017 to September 2018, the study was done at the TRR Institute of Medical Sciences in the Department of Biochemistry. Eighty people with diabetic nephropathy who were told by the nephrourology department to get a fundoscopy took part in the study. Patients whose media were too cloudy to make it impossible to fully examine and treat the fundus were not included in the study.
Results: Proliferative diabetic retinopathy, may be a good way to tell if someone with diabetes will develop nephropathy. People with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus were more likely to have nephropathy when checking for it through vision than people without insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. As a result, it was suggested that people with vision should be told by ophthalmologists to get regular medical checkups and the other way around. Checking a diabetic's urine albumin elimination rate on a regular basis shows how important it is to keep blood pressure and metabolic factors under tight control. It is also possible to find diabetes nephropathy early with this test.
Conclusion: The results show a strong link between the severity of diabetic neuropathy and diabetic retinopathy. This means that the severity of DR may help us guess how common and bad nephropathy will be in people with diabetes.
